Roofing....It's a Dirty Job.

I could see why the young men in my ward growing up were recruited to come tear roofs off. It's a very laboring, dirty job. It makes your muscles sore. It makes you wish you could take more Advil before you actually can. It can make you appreciate a simple bathroom break (Michelle can explain that one). We aren't even done yet, and all we're in charge off is tearing apart the roof. Oh yes, and the roof that I'm referring too is my parents; their very old roof in fact-we have proof, we've found inventory sheets from the 1960's. I actually got off easy. My job has been clean-up, but don't get me wrong, the squatting and bending over have tightened my hamstrings-they're sore to touch & massage. James & my Dad have been the real troopers, being daredevils with crowbars & pitchforks as they've picked off all the old cedar planks off the roof.
Before I get to the pictures of the work, I took these this morning. Madison playing with cars. Madi's favorites toys at Grandma's house are the cars & legos; she immediately goes after those items when she is let loose on the carpet.

Jordan wanted his picture taken, so I was happy to take it.

So, blogger wasn't letting me load up each picture individually, so I had to collage it instead. I think you get the just of how much waste there is. We filled up an entire dumpster yesterday, had it dumped today, and I pretty sure it'll get filled up again with the rest of the stuff tomorrow. It seemed like Michelle & I were constantly separating and moving tar paper and cedar planks. And then there was the dirt. Dirt that has accumulated for years up there. Dirt that got everywhere. Michelle made the comment that it would take a couple of bleachings to get her socks to be white again. But in the end, James & I are happy that we can help out my parents-James says that it just earns him kuddos points for inheritance.

See, I wasn't kidding when I said that roofing was a dirty job.
