So we got lucky this year...2 trunk-r-treats. It actually worked out well since Halloween is today & today is Sunday. We don't trick-r-treat on Sundays. That's actually been a big hoopla here in the state of Utah. I didn't think it was such a big thing, but as I've read articles in the newspapers, I guess it is. Growing up, I never remember trick-r-treating on Saturday {when Halloween fell on a Sunday}. At least for us, we did not go out trick-r-treating last night, nor did we pass out candy tonight.
Another big issue here are trunk-r-treats. I like...as long as they're not on Halloween {I like to take my kids trick-r-treating}. I guess the problem is, when a ward does a Trunk {lets just call truck for short}it excludes the non-lds people in the neighborhood so on & so forth. Not in our ward. I swear, when I showed up for the Truck last night, I didn't recognize anybody. We scurried ourselves inside the gym {because it was raining}, found a spot {so I could pass out candy}& gave my kids over to Tiffany {who was kind enough to take them around because James wasn't off of work yet}. Holy Moly, I swear the whole lower Terrace came through the gym last night. It was fun, but geez...some of these kids think that they should just get candy. I would only give a kid candy if they said, "Trick-r-Treat" {the magic word}. The only problem I had with the Truck last night was: the only people I saw passing out candy where members from our ward; I did not see non-lds people pass out candy; I didn't see anybody from the other ward {that shares our building} pass out candy; I think if you're going to have your kid come Trunk, then you should plan on passing out candy. I get that last night was a warm safe place for the kids to come get candy, but I think it should be give & take; be a good person and contribute to the fun. But hey, I'm not on the activities committee, so....my opinion doesn't matter.
After the Trunk, we headed up to Hogwarts...yes, I said Hogwarts. There's a Docter who lives in Shadow Valley that transforms his estate into Harry Potter land. And it's free. Kris {Tyler's Kris} & her family are friends with the Doc, and that's how we found out about it. Kris & her family have dressed up as characters for years. This was the first year we were able to go and do it. We took two of the Braden boys & had fun walking around. It was crazy busy...but fun.
Here are some pictures from the night:
Jordan & Matthew were both Vampires, so I had them give me their best look.
"Are we done yet??" {and he had only been there for maybe 5 minutes}
I don't remember what he was doing
Cute Madi
They had a zipline set up, and down at the bottom you got to throw balls at the people. So this is Scott trying to pelt somebody.
Jaxson trying to hit Sonja as she was coming down.
Cute Sonja in her Carebears costume.
Jordan coming down.
Jordan said that nobody hit him.
Cute boy!
Scott trying to pelt his brother, Matthew.
Our fun little group. It was really nice to take the Braden boys because I think the boys preferred to hold their hands instead of Mom & Dad's hands.
After making it home {it took us awhile because we got "lost" trying to find our way back down the mountain} we put the kiddos in the bath & to bed. I then scooped myself a treat of Butterfinger ice cream & sat down to catch up on my missed Chuck episodes with James. Good ending to a good night.
