Last Wednesday, after coming home from our soccer game, James & I were watching the news, when breaking news hit. There had been an officer involved shooting just 3 blocks down the street from Dave's house. The news stations had barely any information, as James waited up late switching channels, to gain information. The next morning is when we would find out that an officer was killed, with 5 others wounded.
Why does this hit close to home?? The Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force was executing a warrant, and the suspect opened fire on the squad. Again, why does this hit close to him??? Because James does this every.single.week.
Every week, James goes out into the field to do his weekly checkups. He also goes out to arrest people. He does all this with full protective gear, and a gun on his hip, and good people on his side.
So yes. I think this hits close to home because any crazy stupid felon could inflict harm on my husband.
I feel so sad for the officer's families. What a horrible thing to have to go through.

Today was Officer Jared Francoms funeral. Thousands of law enforcement officers filled the Dee Events Center and the funeral route showing their supports. The community came out and supported this fallen Officer. What a sight to see.
James attended the funeral is his best attire {they don't have a dress uniform} and then stood along the route-for hours. He came home emotionally drained. I feel for him.

Watching the funeral on TV today, I was amazed at how many people turned out.
I was amazed at how far people traveled to come here.
And through all of this, do I fear for James and the occupation that he chose?? No. I don't. Because James is smart, and he chooses smart people to surround him. People he trusts with his safety. Therefore, I trust those people. I'm so proud of my husband. It's not easy being in the Correctional Field. There's a reason why Corrections is referred too as the "Bastard Step Child" of Law Enforcement....nobody thinks of Correctional officers. People don't realize that yes, police catch the bad the guys, but who takes care of them??? Correctional officers do. It's a hard job to do sometimes, but he does it because he wants to.
