Tomatoes

With the growing season now coming to a close (except our pumpkin-we'll let that kick around until halloween), we are seeing an abundance of produce. Tuesday, I made another batch of cucumbers, and James & I decided that next year we will only plant 4 plants instead of 17. Today, I spent an hour peeling and cutting 15 lbs of roma tomatoes-my fingers are still a little orange, and I still have brandywines that I'll have to get to. I then cooked down the tomatoes and seasoned them to produce a large quantity of tomatoe sauce for either spaghetti or tomatoe soup. My neck is only a little sore from standing so long peeling little tomatoes. I'm not complaining though because I love tomatoes, especially fresh tomatoes, and come winter time it sure will be nice to pull out some sauce and make soup-mmmm. At least it's been cooler this week to do all of this cooking.
On a side note, I asked my Mom how my zucchini bread did at the state fair (my Mom works at the Home Arts Building). She said she talked to the lady over the division, and although I didn't place (sigh), apparently my bread looked the most like zucchini bread, and tasted the most like zucchini bread, but with new judges this year, the lady said that she didn't think they knew very much. Oh well, my Mom did say that the bread tasted fabulous and even the lady said so as well. I guess I'll try again next year, and I think I'll even try the indoor cooking competitions and try to win some money.
