Utah Hogle Zoo 2009

Last Friday, on the hottest day we've had all year, the Clegg Family plus Grandpa Nelson ventured to the Zoo for Jordan's birthday. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with the selection of animals and exhibits-all the big animals were in hiding, and it seems like they lose animals every year I've been. But the important thing is that the boys had fun, they like animals and the zoo somewhat provided that. I've decided that we need to make a trip somewhere that has a big zoo, so we can actually see lions, hippos, polar bears, and tigers.

At the Elephant Encounter they have a scale that tells you how much you weigh compare to the Elephant and Rhino population-the scale is off though because it said that Jordan weighed 100lbs (that's only 70lbs off). I think with all of us on we equally weighed to a baby elephant. We made the afternoon elephant show which was nice because we actually got to see an elephant facing towards us (when we came by in the morning, the 2 elephants were in the back and had their backs turned). We found out that one of the elephants was due anytime-I would hate to be pregnant for 2 years, can you imagine?
The Giraffes were out and about, and we actually got to see one kinda close up outside. Jaxson enjoyed seeing these animals.
There was only one gorilla and it was hiding way back in the corner. But since he was next to the window, the boys got to see him.

We saw most of the Orangutans outside, but of course they were hiding in the shade. We did however get to the male inside, and he was up close and very visible.
When we went through Discoveryland, there was a lady with a Ball Boa, and was letting kids pet him. Jordan got the courage and actually touched the snake. I think Jaxson touhed this snake as well, but had done it before I got the camera out. When we came back later for the show, Jordan also got to pet a hissing cockroach, possum, and a rosy desert snake-I got video of that, but haven't been able to get it off the camera. The boys enjoyed walking through the reptile/insect building, looking at all the specimens.
At the zoo they have a playground with lots of fun toys. It was so hot though that we quickly went past, letting the boys go down the slide once or twice, and hop on things quickly. Jordan thought that he would stick his head in the crocs mouth, and he actually got it stuck. When he got his head out, he sort of had a perplexed look on his face.

Mommy and Jaxson waiting for the elephant show to start. Jaxson likes playing with the camera and taking pictures.
